While Mother's Day has come and gone, the time for a quick or extended girls' getaway has never been easier. From affordable locales to exotic retreats, these four off-the-beaten-path locales are enticing escapes if you're yearning to plan a memorable trip with mom. So, grab your tickets and enjoy quality bonding in these vibrant locales filled with top-notch dining options, flourishing art scenes and plenty of opportunities for outdoor exploration.

Burgandy, France

A longer getaway to Burgundy's legendary wine region is an ideal choice if you and your mom enjoy gorgeous landscapes and first-rate wine, including Pinot Noirs, Chablis and Beaujolais varieties. Start the trip in Paris before taking a scenic train ride to enjoy the famous Hôtel-Dieu de Paris, which was founded in the 15th century. Then, stroll through the picturesque downtown or head to Burgandy's capital, Dijon (of Dijon mustard fame) to explore the impressive Palace of the Dukes of Burgandy, where the distinguished Musée des Beaux-Arts was established in 1787. After checking out the area's picturesque castles, drive over to the Château de Pommard. Built a year before the Palace of the Dukes, the famous chateau's cavernous cellars hold over 300,000 bottles of wine. And, whatever you do, once in Burgundy, make sure to stay and eat at the quaint bed-and-breakfast Les Roches. This charming retreat in Mount-Saint-Jean offers breathtaking surroundings and excellent cuisine.

Logan, Utah

Just a short drive from Salt Lake City, Logan is home to Beaver Mountain, one of Utah's top ski retreats. In the off-season, this tiny town is still a great place to hike and embrace the great outdoors. Plus, the area offers a versatile and up-and-coming food scene, filled with everything from Indian and Pakistani dishes at Tandoori Oven to Italian plates at Le Nonne to authentic Mexican cuisine at Mundo's Latin Grill. For a meal to remember, head to Angie's Restaurant, where you can indulge in deep-fried scones, buttermilk pancakes and other staples over a leisurely brunch.

A Scenic Train Ride Across Canada

To break away from the conventional way of exploring a destination by flying in and walking around, take your mom on a luxury train ride across Canada. Rocky Mountaineer, a 25-year-old train company, offers rides starting in Vancouver that weave through the winding, tree-filled forests, turquoise rivers, snow-capped mountains and semi-arid deserts of British Columbia. The coaches feature bi-level seating with glass domes for ceilings as well as full-length windows for panoramic viewing, along with plenty of food-and-beverage pairings. Best of all, you can pair this train ride with stops at the Fairmont hotels across British Columbia to indulge in treatments at world-renowned spas, including the Willow Stream Spa at the Fairmont Banff Springs. The spa spans three levels, and boasts indoor and outdoor pools, along with services such as massages, scrubs, facials (including the local favorite "Glacial facial" treatment) and manicures and pedicures.

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

This western Pennsylvania city boasts some of the most vibrant art and food scenes in the country. Its Gilded Age sites, including the Carnegie Museum of Natural History, the Carnegie Museum of Art and the Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, speaks to Pittsburgh's rich heritage as an early 20th-century industrial capital. Plus, Pittsburgh is a great place to walk around with mom, especially if she's a history buff or art aficionado. Afterward, head to the North Shore neighborhood to explore the modern Andy Warhol Museum before sitting down for a decadent meal. If you and your mom are traveling foodies, check out local institutions and new and noteworthy eateries, such as Gaucho Parilla Argentina, Tessaro's, Pipers Pub and Tako, during your trip. And when it comes to choosing a place to stay, keep in mind that while the brand new Ace Hotel Pittsburgh is garnering plenty of attention, the stylish Hotel Monaco, Pittsburgh offers a boutique setting and a convenient location within a 10-minute walk from the Amtrak station and the Pittsburgh Botanical Gardens.
