7 New Cruise Ships Debuting in 2018

Boardwalk promenades, zip lines, bowling alleys, race car tracks and even a floating "Magic Carpet" highlight some of the game-changing additions to cruise ships launching in 2018. And that's only the beginning of the innovative new ships coming to the high seas in 2018. Read on to check out brand new ships that will make waves in the year ahead.
Carnival Horizon, which will debut in April 2018, will boast a Dr. Seuss WaterWorks water park, a teppanyaki restaurant and a BBQ restaurant from the renowned Food Network chef Guy Fieri. Plus, Guy's Pig & Anchor Bar-B-Que Smokehouse Brewhouse will serve a variety of craft beer brewed on the ship. Carnival Horizon will also feature a SkyRide biking experience in the sky, an IMAX movie theater and a tropical-inspired Havana section with themed staterooms, a Cuban club and a pool. What's more, Carnival Horizon offers a family-friendly section of the ship known as Family Harbor with large staterooms that can accommodate up to five guests located next to a dedicated family zone – the Family Harbor Lounge.
Symphony of the Seas
Royal Caribbean's Symphony of the Seas will have the distinction of world's largest cruise ship when finished in April 2018. Designed for families, Symphony of the Seas will offer the Ultimate Family Suite: a two-level stateroom with a slide from the kids' bedroom to the living room, a floor-to-ceiling LEGO wall and an air hockey table. The Symphony of the Seas will also have seven distinct neighborhoods with unique dining and entertainment options. In total, guests can pick from 20 onboard dining venues. Plus, the pool and sports area will feature the Ultimate Abyss 10-story slide, a trio of waterslides named the Perfect Storm, two surfing simulators, mini-golf and a zip line.
The first custom-built Norwegian Cruise Line ship designed for Alaskan cruise itineraries, Norwegian Bliss will set sail on seven-day cruises from Seattle for its inaugural summer season. Featuring two observation lounges, Norwegian Bliss will offer ideal spots for whale-watching. Other diversions for guests will include an electric race car track and laser tag course. Evening entertainment such as the Tony-award winning musical, "Jersey Boys," as well as an original productions perform in the theater. Norwegian Bliss also offers a variety of cabin configurations, from secluded suites in solo-friendly studios in The Haven to connecting staterooms suitable for families and multigenerational groups. Starting in November 2018, the Norwegian Bliss will offer seven-day Caribbean cruises out of Miami.
MSC Cruises' MSC Seaview will be the third new ship to launch in recent years, following MSC Meraviglia and MSC Seaside in 2017. MSC Seaview will feature an innovative design with a wide boardwalk promenade for seaside strolls, dining and entertainment. Onboard, passengers have access to a water park with Slideboarding technology (a slide and video game mashup), a bowling alley, one of the longest zip lines at sea and versatile indoor and outdoor dining venues. The MSC Seaview's inaugural sailing takes place in Genoa, Italy, in June and will spend its inaugural summer season sailing the Mediterranean. In the winter, MSC Seaview shifts to Brazil and the Southern Hemisphere.
Viking Cruises will add its fifth ocean liner, Viking Orion, in July 2018. This small, all-veranda seafaring ship will have 465 balcony staterooms and cabins that can accommodate up to 930 guests. Onboard, visitors will have access to two pools, the LivNordic Spa and the Wintergarden with afternoon tea service. Like all Viking ships, Viking Orion features onboard lecture series and cultural immersion opportunities in lieu of casinos and waterslides. Plus, onboard dining venues include menu options and wine offerings reflecting the local cuisine. Similar to Viking River Cruises, the Viking Orion price includes shore excursions at each port, all onboard meals with beer and wine at lunch and dinner, free Wi-Fi access and more perks.
A tennis court-sized multipurpose platform touted as the ship's "Magic Carpet" will climb up and down the outside of Celebrity Edge's hull, creating a unique expanded veranda. On the top of the ship, guests can experience the 90-seat Dinner on the Edge venue. Meanwhile, Deck 14 offers an expanded pool deck, Deck 5 allows for alfresco dining and on Deck 2 the Magic Carpet serves as the boarding station for Edge Launch tender boats. Even better, the ship's staterooms are, on average, 23 percent larger than previous ships. And thanks to the brand new rooftop garden and multideck venue, Eden, cruise passengers can escape and relax among plants and nature.
ms Nieuw Statendam
When ms Nieuw Statendam launches in December 2018, it will be the second ship in Holland America Line's Pinnacle class. The ship will feature a variety of staterooms that can accommodate soloists in single-friendly cabins along with families in larger ocean view cabins. The ship will also feature a mix of casual eateries and fine dining options at 10 different venues. As for recreational activity, pick from two pools, America's Test Kitchen, BBC Earth Experience programming and Chateau Ste. Michelle wine-blending classes. For entertainment, check out a World Stage with 270-degree LED screens or the Music Walk complex hosts, which features live performers at its B.B. King's Blues Club, Billboard Onboard and Lincoln Center Stage venues.
