Paris

"With the U.S. dollar still strong against a slew of foreign currencies, you could say the world is every American traveler's oyster this summer," says Gabe Saglie, senior editor at Travelzoo.com. Paris is especially appealing, thanks to its advantageous exchange rate (1 euro equals roughly $1.10) paired with free iconic attractions, such as the Luxembourg Gardens and the Champs-Élysées, and affordable accommodation choices. Saglie highlights the XO Hotel Paris as a budget-friendly option, with nightly rates starting at $100 this summer. Heightened competition among budget airlines, such as Norwegian Air and Wow Air, has also led to inexpensive airfare. Wow Air is currently offering tickets from New York City airports to Paris starting at around $250 in July.

Dublin

While Dublin has long been an attractive option for frugal travelers, its storybook streets and world-class landmarks are even more alluring in summer. From June to August, average highs hover in the mid-60s, yielding excellent conditions for exploring must-sees such as St. Patrick's Cathedral and Dublin Castle. And this summer you can snap up low-cost tickets with Wow Air, says Clem Bason, CEO of hotel deal site goSeek.com. Google Flights currently shows round-trip flights to Dublin starting at $440 from District of Columbia airports and round-trip flights starting at $500 from New York City hubs. As for lodging, GoSeek.com currently lists rates at four-star hotels for under $100 per night in June.

Copenhagen, Denmark

Enjoy Copenhagen's forward-leaning design and architecture, cutting-edge culinary scene and beautiful gardens without breaking the bank this summer. Exploring can't-miss attractions, including The Little Mermaid statue and the pedestrian-only Strøget thoroughfare, is free. Best of all, inexpensive tickets with international low-cost carriers create terrific bargains for U.S. visitors, Bason says. Google Flights currently lists round-trip journeys from New York City airports for under $600 in June and July. You can also secure affordable flights from hubs in Chicago and Los Angeles, Bason adds. Google Flights currently lists round-trip routes from Los Angeles International Airport starting at $450 in June.

Zagreb, Croatia

For a unique trip, set your sights on Zagreb, a lesser-known city beyond the famous destinations along the Adriatic Coast such as Dubrovnik and Split, Croatia. Here, you'll find Austro-Hungarian architectural sites, verdant parks and eclectic attractions, from flea markets to eye-catching galleries. What's more, you can secure budget-friendly accommodations, Bason says. For example, the five-star Esplanade Zagreb Hotel is offering nightly rates under $100 this summer, he says. Even better, you can secure affordable airfare from Chicago and New York City hubs with Turkish Airlines, Bason explains. Google Flights currently shows round-trip flights from New York City airports to Zagreb starting at $650 in June.

Cape Town, South Africa

While the long-haul flight to Cape Town will cost a pretty penny, June through August ushers in Cape Town's winter season (read: still-comfortable daily highs in the 60s and fewer crowds than the peak summer season from December to February). At this time of year, you can score affordable accommodations at four-star properties, Bason says. For example, the four-star Mandela Rhodes Place Hotel and Spa is offering nightly rates starting at around $75, he explains. When you're not admiring the city's jaw-dropping topography, punctuated by the inspiring Table Mountain in the background, you can brush up on history at Robben Island or enjoy a relaxing wine tour in Constantia Valley.

Montreal

"The U.S. dollar remains 25 to 30 percent stronger than its counterpart to the north, making even the most deluxe Canadian resorts and experiences value propositions, especially timely with Canada celebrating the 150th anniversary of its confederation," Saglie says. Currently, $1 is about $1.37 Canadian dollars, making it easy to enjoy Montreal's storied landmarks, 18th-century buildings and free festivities and noteworthy events, like the Montreal International Jazz Festival from June 28 to July 8. GoSeek.com currently lists nightly rates at four-star hotels starting at around $100 in June. Even better, Google Flights shows round-trip routes from popular New York City and Chicago airports for under $250 in June.

Porto, Portugal

"Europe is incredibly and unusually affordable right now," says Rebecca Warren, managing editor at Lonely Planet. She points to Porto, located on Portugal's northeastern coastline, as a still-undiscovered summer retreat with friendly locals, a fantastic food scene and a high value, thanks to the strength of the dollar against the euro. You can laze along beaches like Praia do Molhe, check out legendary architectural feats like the Dom Dom Luís I Bridge and catch vibrant annual food and music festivals, like the Festa São João (or Feasts of São João, a distinguished saint) in June, and MEO Mares Vivas Festival (or Living Tides Festival) in July. Plus, you can enjoy comfortable temperatures in the upper 60s and 70s and snag cost-effective accommodations. GoSeek.com currently lists nightly rates at four-star accommodations for under $100 in June.

Lima

If you want to get a sampling of Lima's culture-filled streets, summer is an excellent time for a trip. June to August marks winter in the Southern Hemisphere, where you can expect pleasant temperatures in the 60s and optimal conditions for exploring top attractions such as the Plaza de Armas and the Museo Larco. What's more, you can still secure affordable accommodations. GoSeek.com currently lists four-star accommodations starting at around $115 in June. Even better, finding affordable airfare is a cinch. Google Flights currently lists round-trip flights from Los Angeles starting at $570 in June and round-trip flights from Chicago hubs for around $450 for the same period.
