While it may seem extreme to reject a hotel because it lacks an on-site spa, some travelers consider this luxurious amenity a must-have. Hotels.com's survey shows that 1 percent of Americans will not book a room unless they're guaranteed access to a massage table. Canadians, on the other hand, do not consider pampering a priority.

First and foremost, a hotel provides travelers with a place to sleep after a long day, so it only makes sense that guests demand high-quality beds. According to Hotels.com, lacking a luxury mattress is a deal-breaker for 9 percent of Americans and 15 percent of Canadians.

"It's how hotels really get you in big cities," says Clem Bason, president and CEO of the Hotwire Group. "In some big cities, you can pay $35 per day [to park]." Hotels.com found that 18 percent of Americans and 21 percent of Canadians refuse to book a room unless their car can stay for free.

In a society that's deeply in love with technology, it should come as no surprise that free Wi-Fi takes the cake as the most desirable hotel amenity. According to Hotels.com's survey, 38 percent of Americans will not book a room unless it offers complimentary internet access. However, connectivity does not seem to carry too much weight with Canadian travelers: Only 28 percent noted free Wi-Fi as a necessity. Hotels.com also notes that internet access is not as desirable for guests over 60—they're more interested in the complimentary breakfast.
