Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan Membership

Membership Levels

The Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan consists of basic membership and the MVP Program. The MVP Program is divided into three classes: MVP, MVP Gold and MVP Gold 75K. The program also includes Club 49, a special level for Alaska residents.

Basic Membership

You can become a member of the Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan after you sign up for free on the Alaska Airlines website. As a member, you will be able to earn and redeem miles with Alaska Airlines and 17 partner air carriers.

MVP

Benefits include:

  • Free cabin upgrades

To attain and maintain MVP status, you must accrue 20,000 miles on Alaska Airlines flights, or fly 25,000 miles or 30 flight segments on a combination of Alaska Airlines and partner flights within a calendar year. As an MVP member, you will receive preferred seating and complimentary first- or premium-class upgrades on Alaska Airlines flights booked on alaskaair.com. Additionally, you will get priority check-in and boarding on Alaska Airlines flights, plus you and a companion on the same reservation can check two bags for free. What's more, you will receive a 50 percent earnings bonus on flights with Alaska Airlines and participating partners, as well as discounts on the airline's airport lounge membership and a dedicated phone line for reservations. Keeping your MVP benefits requires requalifying annually. If you cannot meet minimum qualification requirements due to having a child, you may provide proof of pregnancy or parental leave to extend your MVP status for one year.

MVP Gold

You will reach MVP Gold status after you have flown 40,000 miles on Alaska Airlines, or 50,000 miles or 60 flight segments on a combination of Alaska Airlines and participating partner airlines within a calendar year. Along with the benefits awarded to MVP members, MVP Gold status grants you unlimited first-or premium-class upgrades for you and a companion on the same reservation, a complimentary premium beverage in the Main Cabin, and four first-class guest upgrade codes per year for family and friends not traveling with the Mileage Plus elite member. Plus, you'll earn a 100 percent earnings bonus on Alaska Airlines and participating partners. Other MVP Gold benefits include discounted Alaska Lounge membership, partner lounge access in select international airports, and complimentary same-day flight changes and same-day standby when confirmed flight changes aren't available. MVP Gold members also receive waivers for Mileage Plan service charges and ticket change fees, as well as access to express security lines (at select airports) when flying with Alaska Airlines. To maintain MVP Gold status, you must fulfill the specified miles or flight segments each year. If you will not meet minimum qualification requirements and can show proof of being pregnant or taking parental leave within the last year, you may extend your MVP Gold status through Alaska Airlines' Elite Leave program.

MVP Gold 75K

Once you have flown 75,000 miles on Alaska Airlines, or 90,000 miles or 90 flight segments on Alaska Airlines and partner airlines within a calendar year, you will be upgraded to MVP Gold 75K status. In addition to MVP Gold benefits, MVP Gold 75K members receive 50,000 bonus miles upon attaining status, plus a 125 percent bonus on miles earned on Alaska Airlines and participating partners. You'll also receive four free Alaska Lounge day passes. During your flight, you'll have access to a complimentary in-flight entertainment player. You may also nominate one person for MVP status. To keep your MVP Gold 75K status, you must meet the specified mile or flight segment requirements every year or qualify for the Elite Leave program.

Club 49

Benefits include:

If you are a resident of Alaska, you qualify for the Alaska Airlines Club 49 program. You can register for free on the Alaska Airlines Club 49 page. Membership is reevaluated annually and automatically confirmed if the member still qualifies. Club 49 members receive benefits like two free checked bags on flights to or from destinations in Alaska for all passengers on their reservation. You will also receive two annual Travel Now discount codes, which are valid for 30 percent off one-way travel in a Refundable Coach fare within four days of ticket purchase to or from any city in Alaska. Alaska Airlines will also send you emails with exclusive promotions and fare discounts.

The Hilton Honors program is most advantageous for business and luxury travelers who frequently fly to and stay in major cities in the United States, Europe and Asia. Hilton Honors members can redeem points at more than 5,300 hotels and resorts across 14 different brands in more than 100 countries and territories. And because Hilton has a partnership with the United MileagePlus program (as well as more than 40 other airline and rail partners), you can cash in points for miles. Points can also be used to purchase tickets to concerts and sporting events, gift cards, cruise certificates and items sold on Amazon and Hilton Honors' shopping portal. Additionally, you can earn points for everyday purchases with the Hilton Honors credit cards from American Express.
