The Free Spirit program is split into three categories: Somebody, Elite and VIP. You may also become part of Spirit's $9 Fare Club, which offers advantages like reduced flight fares and discounted baggage fees.

Somebody

Benefits include:

  • Ability to earn and use points

Somebody status is the basic Free Spirit membership. You'll automatically become a Somebody member when you enroll for free in the program online at Spirit.com. As a Somebody member, you'll earn half of the actual miles you fly, meaning that if you fly 100 miles, you'll collect 50 Free Spirit miles. The miles you earn count toward membership upgrades, and you'll have access to exclusive members-only offers and promotions.

Elite

Benefits include:

  • Ability to earn and use points

You will qualify for Elite status by flying at least 12,000 miles or spending at least $1,200 on base fare tickets (not including taxes, fees or optional services) within six months. You can also earn Elite status by signing up for a Spirit Airlines credit card, which will automatically grant you 15,000 bonus miles after your first purchase has been made. As an Elite member, you will earn 1 mile for every mile you travel with Spirit Airlines.  You will also collect 2 miles for every dollar spent on everyday purchases with your Spirit Airlines World Mastercard credit card. If you are a Spirit Airlines credit card holder, you'll also receive extra perks like preferred boarding and priority check-in at some airports. You'll maintain Elite status as long as you meet minimum qualification requirements every six months or use your Spirit Airlines World Mastercard credit card once every three months.

VIP

Benefits include:

  • Ability to earn and use points

After flying 24,000 miles or spending $2,400 on Spirit Airlines base fares (not including taxes, fees or optional services) over a six-month period, you will achieve VIP status. As a VIP member, you will earn 1 mile per distance traveled. You will keep your VIP status so long as you requalify every six months.

$9 Fare Club

  • Ability to earn and use points

If you register for Spirit's $9 Fare Club (for an initial fee of $59.95 and an annual membership fee of $69.95), you'll be rewarded with reduced flight fares and discounts on checked baggage (if you book online at Spirit.com).
