Southwest Rapid Rewards Membership

Membership Levels

The Southwest Rapid Rewards program has four membership tiers: basic membership, A-List, A-List Preferred and Companion Pass.

Basic

Benefits include:

  • Ability to earn and use points
  • Free checked bags

By enrolling in the Rapid Rewards program, you'll automatically begin earning points on Southwest flights; enrollment is free. As a member, you will earn 12 points per dollar on "Business Select" fares, 10 points per dollar on "Anytime" fares and six points per dollar on "Wanna Get Away" fares. These points also count as Tier Qualifying Points and can help you reach the program's higher membership statuses.

A-List

Benefits include:

  • Ability to earn and use points
  • Free checked bags
  • Priority boarding/seating
  • Expedited security

To attain A-List status, you must fly 25 flight segments (one-way trips that include layovers and connections on Southwest) or accrue 35,000 Tier Qualifying Points within one calendar year. As an A-List member, you'll earn a 25 percent points bonus on top of the base points you collect from each flight. You'll also receive complimentary same-day standby, priority boarding and Fly By Access – the ability to bypass long lines at ticket counters and security checkpoints (at participating airports). Additionally, you'll have access to a phone reservations line for A-List members. To maintain your A-List membership, you must requalify every year.

A-List Preferred

Benefits include:

  • Ability to earn and use points
  • Free checked bags
  • Priority boarding/seating
  • Expedited security

Once you've flown 50 flight segments or earned 70,000 Tier Qualifying Points within one calendar year, you will become an A-List Preferred member. At this membership level, you'll earn twice as many bonus points on top of the base points you receive for each flight. As for benefits, you will continue to have access to all of the perks awarded by A-List status, plus free in-flight Wi-Fi (when available) and a dedicated phone number for A-List Preferred members. Keeping your A-List Preferred benefits will require meeting minimum flight segment or Tier Qualifying Points requirements each year.

Companion Pass

Benefits include:

  • Ability to earn and use points
  • Free checked bags
  • Priority boarding/seating
  • Expedited security

You can achieve Companion Pass status by flying 100 flight segments or earning 110,000 Companion Pass Qualifying Points within a calendar year. This membership status allows you to bring one companion of your choice with you for free (excluding taxes and fees) for the entire year whenever you fly (though you must purchase or redeem points for a ticket for yourself). You can designate your companion online, and you can change who receives the companion benefits up to three times per calendar year. Companions cannot earn Rapid Rewards points for the member, and if your chosen companion is also a Rapid Rewards member, that individual cannot earn points for the flight. Additionally, you'll retain all of the benefits awarded to the previous membership tiers. To maintain your Companion Pass status, you must requalify annually.
