At this level, you'll earn 7 miles per dollar spent on base fares, as well as a 25 percent earnings bonus on United and several partner airlines. Premier Silver members and one companion also get complimentary access to Economy Plus seating at check-in. Additional upgrades for you and one companion may also be available and confirmed on the departure date for select United and Copa flights. Purchase a full-fare "Y" or "B" economy-class ticket and you'll get an upgrade instantly. Premier Silver members also earn a minimum of 500 PQMs for each segment on United, Copa and select partner airlines. At the airport, you'll have access to priority check-in, security screening (at participating airports) and boarding lines. Additional Premier Silver perks include priority baggage handling, access to a dedicated reservation line for Premier members and one free checked bag weighing up to 50 pounds. You'll get discounts on or waived award ticket booking and change fees. Premier Silver members also receive more Saver Awards availability and Everyday Awards access than basic members. Additionally, MileagePlus Premier Silver status makes you a Star Alliance Silver member, meaning you'll get higher priority on reservations and airport standby lists when you purchase a Star Alliance partner airline ticket. Keep in mind that when you purchase a basic economy fare, you will not receive certain perks, including seat selection; seat upgrades; flight changes or refunds; and group or family seat selection. What's more, you won't be able to bring full-sized carry-on bags on the plane, only one smaller personal item. You also will not earn PQDs, PQMs, PQSs or lifetime miles when purchasing a basic economy fare. You'll need to requalify each year to maintain your Premier Silver status.

Premier Gold members automatically become Star Alliance Gold members, with perks such as one additional free checked bag and priority check-in, boarding and baggage handling on Star Alliance flights, as well as Star Alliance lounge access at select airports.
